Our group sessions typically start with introductions and establishing a safe and supportive environment. Participants share their reasons for attending and may set goals for therapy. As the group progresses, dynamics such as trust, cohesion, and mutual support develop among members. The therapist helps members identify and understand these dynamics, promoting insight and self-awareness. Group therapy sessions may include structured exercises, role-plays, and skill-building activities designed to help members develop coping skills, communication skills, assertiveness, and emotional regulation techniques. Participants have the opportunity to practice these skills within the group and receive feedback from both peers and the therapist.
Group therapy helps individuals realize that their experiences and struggles are common to others. This normalisation reduces feelings of isolation, shame, and stigma, enhancing self-acceptance and resilience. The recognition of universality fosters a sense of belonging and solidarity within the group. Participants can freely express their feelings, release pent-up emotions, and process difficult experiences with the support of the group. This emotional release promotes healing and psychological growth.
Our group therapy also offers opportunities for social learning and modelling. Participants observe how others cope with similar challenges, learn from each other's experiences, and experiment with new behaviours in a supportive environment. This social reinforcement enhances motivation for change and facilitates skill acquisition. group therapy provides a supportive community and ongoing resources beyond the therapy sessions.
Overall, our group therapy offers a unique and valuable therapeutic experience characterised by mutual support, interpersonal learning, skill building, and emotional expression. Its benefits include enhanced social support, increased self-awareness, improved coping skills, and a sense of belonging and connection with others.
